The Camptown ladies sing this song, doo-dah, doo-dah

My sis got to go to the Kentucky Derby last week
(color me jealous. all the hats? all the dresses? all the mint juleps?)

She asked me to make her hat, since that simple act was the same as giving me a most-excellent Christmas/birthday/Mother's day gift.

seriously- ask me to make something for an event or a party or a gift or just because...
it will make my day.

She found the base, the actual HAT itself, at Target for 12.99. Wish I had a before pic, but alas...I didn't take one. Our original intent was to purchase some crazyawesome peacock feathers at the hob lob, but then it got blown to bits. So we went to Michael's. They didn't have peacock feathers (huff), so we found a pretty pink bushel of flowers. After experimenting a bit with flowers and ribbons and tulle, I came up with this-

turquoise ribbon,
brown tulle,
3 pink blooms

since the sis wasn't with me when I was working on it, I sent her pics.
I made other prototypes, but this was the winner-

And here it is on her head, in Kentucky, with Chad, and his bowtie.
I like commas today.

Sis has some fab pics of what some others chose to wear- this hat was one of my faves.
wonder if it gave her a sore neck?

Doesn't that look like such fun?
Running horses,
fab and faux-pas fashions,
hats, hats, hats,
running horses,
beautiful track/ scenery,
running horses.

yes, please.

And, for anyone out there interested, the rest of the lyrics are as follows:

The Camptown ladies sing this song,
Doo-da, Doo-da
The Camptown racetrack's five miles long
Oh, de doo-da day

Goin' to run all night
Goin' to run all day
I bet my money on a bob-tailed nag
Somebody bet on the gray

Oh, the long tailed filly and the big black horse,
Doo-da, doo-da
Come to a mud hole and they all cut across,
Oh, de doo-da day

Goin' to run all night
Goin' to run all day
I bet my money on a bob-tailed nag
Somebody bet on the gray

I went down there with my hat caved in,
Doo-da, doo-da
I came back home with a pocket full of tin
Oh, de doo-da day

Goin' to run all night
Goin' to run all day
I bet my money on a bob-tailed nag
Somebody bet on the gray

Doo-dah, doo-dah friends!
Until next time...
